Halifax's Garrison Brewing hired a new brewmaster last year and has started putting out a wide variety of seasonal brews. While it seems more suited for winter, this summer Garrison has put out a barley wine.
Deep dark cooper with touches of orange and a fizzy light tan head. Aroma of caramel malts, citrus, hops, grapefruit, and a touch of alcohol (it is 10.3%). Smooth flavour with a big punch of hops, plenty of tartness, but also some roasted malt and spice. Alcohol unfortunately comes out quite strong in the aftertaste.
4/5
